Team united against dementia

Up the Quays without a paddle…

In May, as part of Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Awareness Week 2017, Dementia United’s Project Management Office, Haelo, took part in Age UK Salford’s Good Life Festival and “rowed” for Dementia.

Dementia is set to be the 21st century’s biggest killer. But awareness and understanding remains low and many families are facing it alone. The Good Life Festival held at the Helly Hansen Watersports Centre, Salford Quays, was an awareness event to highlight the services available for people and families affected by dementia in the local community. The boat race ran alongside taster sessions for people around climbing, sailing, kayaking and treasure hunting.

Our team ‘Haelo’s Heroes’ entered on behalf of Dementia United. The team came together for a common goal, a team of people affected and motivated by empowering others to live well with dementia. Proudly wearing signature Haelo green shirts and adorned with dragon war paint, they took on 18 teams to sail into the semi-finals and were valiantly awarded second place – Well done team!
